We’re on Amazon!

Have you seen our book yet? Have you browsed the table of contents and our form of prose? Do it on Amazon now! We’ve talked to hundreds of students and helped dozens win their first awards. We’ve done it for middle school, high school, and college teams. We’ve deconstructed the game of Model UN and synthesized the skills that make an impact on your fellow delegates. We have also shown our students how those skills make them better with their teachers, their friends, and even people with whom they’re dying to make a good first impression. In our book, we teach from a different perspective about negotiation and debate. We teach you how to demonstrate leadership. We’ve given talks to teach how to network, be more confident, and how to be a charismatic speaker. Yes, the skills you practice in Model UN will even work in interviews and auditions. Life is a process of “becoming.” Becoming better, becoming more mature, becoming strong, evolving, ascending, etc. We named our book “MUN-E” (pronounced MONEY) because this process of “becoming” is the most powerful, VALUABLE skill you can ever learn. Model UN is just the perfect place to practice this skill. Not only does it give you more awareness of your own SELF and the people who are listening to you, but it also is a GLOBAL Activity! MUN-E Cheat Sheet: 2012-2013

MUN-E Cheat Sheet: 2012-2013

We at Model UN Education and The MUNIVERSITY are happy to FINALLY bring you what will become our “annual” international news pre-season summary. Have you ever heard of Fantasy Football or even an All-Star game in professional sports? Well, this is our all-star list of newsworthy world events starting from the near end of your previous school year. We hope to give you a quick overview of the summary of these events, linking each one to a series of news articles. We will undeniably confess that we have our own bias as EVERY organization does. As educators, we seek to give a bird’s eye view of each event on a large timescale. As a lesson, you should NEVER believe what you read in a single article, especially when it comes to anything you read on the INTERNET. The sooner you begin to use your ability to CURATE YOUR RESEARCH, the more embarrassment you will avoid in the future. Some opposing or allied delegates will lose trust in you immediately if you begin quoting a source that is completely wrong, for example, when John Kerry says the USA has a very strict line about chemical weapons, you cannot quote him and assume that we have never sold chemical weapons to middle eastern countries. The mountain of historical evidence is against you.  We also do not want you to think that we are historians. We have no intention of giving a complete deconstruction of ANY event. We may actually phrase our bias in such a way that you, as a Model UN delegate, can “spin” your position the way we will undoubtedly spin ours. But you will have to rephrase your research through the perspective of your respective country or the person that you represent in your respective committee. For example, don’t use our arguments about Barack Obama’s failure to work with Congress if you are a representative of the United States. Our review will begin in the summer, post-Putin election. Note that the links we are attaching are from a site that simply aggregated a series of news articles so that you may do your own investigation. We wanted to thank the creators of the website endgame.com but there is no information through which we can thank them. So give them some clicks and do your proper diligence of RESEARCH: Spain Accepts 100 Billion Euro Bailout Deal. (06-08-2012, 40 Records) Financial issues are becoming the hallmark of every political decision in the world. If you are going to have any power as a diplomat, you are going to have to become financially savvy. In the case of the European Union, you need to focus on the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Bank of England (BOE). The Federal Reserve of the USA (the Fed) is a replica of the BOE and the ECB is a modern, overextended replica of the Fed. European countries that rely on tourism much less than Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain (unfavorably called the PIGS), have much more stable economies. Greece’s troubles should be relatively familiar to you, and Italy, Spain, and Portugal are experiencing very similar troubles...

The Modern Age of MUN!

Model UN is getting some PRESS! First, we’d like to point you to the biggest article we’ve seen about Model UN as the New York Times must have hired an author with some legit MUN experience to explain how integral this new educational experience is for students growing up in this global world! And we also would like to tip our hats to our friends at Best Delegate for getting some great exposure in the article! On a side note that proves this whole MUN thing is growing like wildfire, our book is being ordered by the University of Indiana for use in a college course based on bringing Model UN into the classroom! We’re extremely honored that someone out there has heard of us. We did happen to write the only complete book on Model UN that exists, so we can’t blame them. But the main reason we’re writing today is because we wanted to share with you that the book has some new additions! MUN-E now includes an extra section on advanced strategies in Chapter 6: “The Blueprint,” as well as a whole new Chapter that carries you through the creation of your own website for your club, your conference, or your own blog. Just like our website is connected to our Facebook and Twitter, you can connect your site the same way using our chapter on “Going Digital.” Your site will be set up in WordPress FOR FREE, then with a few clicks you’ll have all of your social media integrated, and you’ll be managing your site like a pro with the WordPress dashboard. This is the future and we made it our mission to help get you there. Advisors and Club Organizers!!! Yes, we didn’t forget about you either. There is now an appendix that details organizational strategies for sustaining a successful Model UN Club along with some tips on managing a school trip of 80-100 high school students. Use the summer wisely and get prepped for this year’s competition! We’re including a preview of the book here. Use the little orange [+] button to share it!...

Preparation for MUN 2013-2014

Preparation for MUN 2013-2014

NSA Spying, Drones in America, Historic Weather and Floods, a new Iranian president, the Keystone pipeline, the IRS scandal, GMO foods and Monsanto, the Turkish Uprising, and we’re not even at the halfway point of 2013 yet. If you aren’t familiar with these headlines AND you want to have a successful year in Model UN, consider this your summer reading list. The earlier you begin training your eyes and ears for the arguments you’ll be hearing in the next year, the better you’ll be at debating with your peers. The college students who are in charge of the coming year’s conferences are hard at work shaping these controversies into background guides. They are intently watching the news, reading online reports, and studying the background of the key players in these world events. Considering the fact that most high school students have the entire summer off, it’s a really great opportunity to transition 30 minutes of your daily TV time into 30 minutes of active engagement in a news program. The best option, in my opinion, is to lump all of your news watching into Sunday morning on CNN. There are three programs in particular that are back-to-back and offer very clear delineation (SAT word for description) of political segmentation (SAT word for differences): (1) State of the Union with Candy Crowley, followed by (2) Fareed Zakaria’s GPS, followed by (3) Reliable Sources. State of the Union is a show dedicated to US national affairs, Fareed Zakaria’s GPS is a show dedicated to international affairs, and Reliable Sources is a show that turns the spotlight onto the news itself, analyzing how “newsworthy” are the stories being told and if there is any “spin” being given to the major stories of the week. These three TV shows may be the most informative 3-hours of television that you can observe any given week of the year, especially as they relate to the stories you hear about on a daily basis. Make these shows a part of your summer TV entertainment routine… and watch it with a friend so that you two can argue your own opinions in preparation of the upcoming year of debate! And you should buy our book for summer reading. Cause it’s awesome. Didn’t you read the testimonials? [BuyBookCenter]...

The REVOLUTION of SI

The REVOLUTION of SI

We’ve only scratched the surface of the utility & ubiquity of Social Intelligence in our everyday life. Like a fellow Model UN advisor shared with us, “this belongs in the high school curriculum, especially with everything that’s going on nowadays.” And we couldn’t agree more. No matter what profession our Model UN graduates pursue, their practices in committee AND outside committee are fertile grounds for becoming incredible contributors to the future! Not only is this topic so new, it’s expanding so quickly into our own business and social world. Body language experts are analyzing presidential debates, MBAs are taking business classes on social interaction, Navy Commanders are hoping to “socialize” our own local police, and even kindergartners are learning how to meditate and emotionally empathize with their upset classmates! How is this all connected? Social Intelligence. At the risk of being a little radical, we think it’s so important to our communal success and survival, it could almost suffice as a modern, secular foundation for morality. Mathematically, John Nash won the Nobel Prize in economics for this idea within game-theory… and we could communally earn the spoils! So get yourself educated about this stuff!! Watch a few videos and read a few blogs! Amy Cuddy gave this incredibly inspiring TED talk.  She talks about how our body language is a biological mechanism for treating our own health and well-being with hormone therapy. She also discusses the incredible self-transformation that happened through her own experience. Check it out if you haven’t seen it. Psychology Today contributor, Dr. Michael Austin, wrote this great article about social intelligence, empathy, and its incredible effects! We give what we receive and it even rings true among doctor-patient relationships! Doctors who show empathy have better patient recovery rates AND a lower probability of malpractice suits. Computer programmers created Github.com with the goal of connecting as many editors as possible and increase the efficiency of software engineering. This is just one small example of the incredible power that social media and social networking in the digital world will advance the ideas of social intelligence far beyond the initial expectations of those who’ve developed these ideas. Our own sites: Model UN Education and The MUNIVERSITY are our own attempts to bring you this training. We’re always looking for co-conspirators and collaborators! Write to us if you’re interested! Daniel Goleman has popularized the emotional intelligence paradigm that also gave rise to the new push for engaging modern leaders to develop their own social intelligence. A few of his numerous books are linked below and here’s a link to his youtube videos! Last but not least, aren’t you on Facebook? Of course you are. Aren’t you on Twitter? We all are! We’re pouring our social communication into these sites and keeping tabs on our own social circles! Businesses are now using these networks for marketing and promotions, and even good samaritans are create social media on-the-fly when natural disasters hit! Hurricane Sandy is a perfect example of this modern technology and social intelligence effort! We also posted about this on The MUNIVERSITY. Remember, we are bringing you this revolutionary information before everyone! And we...
